2025 flag football talent id SEARCH

The LA Olympics are Coming!! 

​

In 2028 Flag Football will make its Olympic debut. A dynamic, 5 v 5 non-contact version of American Football taking the world by storm and we know Australian athletes have what it takes to excel!

​

​AFA are looking for fast, agile athletes to come and showcase their skills at our upcoming talent ID days across the country. If you currently play field or court-based sports, the skills you have are highly transferable into flag football.​

​We are on the lookout for athletes in both our junior and senior divisions across all genders.

 

Our junior teams will be split into U15 and U17 divisions for athletes ages 13-17 and our senior teams are for athletes aged 18+.

Our at talent ID days athletes will:

  • test their speed and agility

  • learn the basic skills from State Flag Football coaches

  • showcase their potential with a chance to be selected for our high-performance junior and senior programs for the AFA pathway to the Olympics​

  • Do you have to be an Australian citizen?
    Australian citizenship is an eligibility requirement for selection to our national teams. You must be either a current Australian citizen (i.e. are eligible to be issued with an Australian passport) or can provide details of your current pathway towards becoming an Australian citizen.
  • Where are the talent ID events being held?
    Athletes are encouraged to submit an EOI for the upcoming talent ID events and our high performance team will provide invites to selected athletes. All event details including location, schedule and additional information will be provided via this invite.
  • Is there any cost to attend the talent ID event?
    No, there is no cost to attend the talent ID events. A free registration will be the next step for all invited athletes.
  • Are the talent ID events only open to new athletes or can existing flag football players submit an EOI?
    The EOI is open to all new athletes and existing flag football athletes. Talent ID event registration will be by invite following submission of your EOI.
  • My child is under 13 years old, can they attend the talent ID event?
    The current age range for the talent ID events is guided by the age eligibility for the Australian national teams. U15 Division: Any athlete of 14 or 15 years on 31st December 2025 U17 Division: Any athlete of 16 or 17 years on 31st December 2025 If you would like to discuss this further with our team, please email info@americanfootball.org.au
  • Is this talent ID event for my state team selection?
    No. The AFA talent ID search is not a specific selection event for the state flag football teams for the upcoming 2025 national championships. Some events may be held at the same time but state team selection is a function of the state league, not AFA.
