American Football Australia is pleased to confirm that Pete Breuer and Mitch Woellner will continue in their roles as Head Coaches of Australia's Senior and Junior Tackle programs respectively, as the organisation builds towards its second year of international tackle competition.
Breuer returns as Senior Tackle Head Coach for a second consecutive campaign. In 2025, he led the senior men's tackle squad, the first to be assembled in 10 years. His appointment came as part of the inaugural Festival of Football on the Gold Coast, and his return provides continuity and stability as the program enters its next phase of development.
Woellner, who has served as Junior Tackle Head Coach since 2024, will also continue in the role. Since coming on board, Woellner has been instrumental in identifying and developing emerging talent through AFA's national representation pathways, helping to build the pipeline of athletes capable of progressing to the senior program.
Together, Breuer and Woellner will lead the coaching and preparation of Australia's tackle teams ahead of the second annual Festival of Football, set to take place in New Zealand in July 2026. The event will once again bring together teams from across the region in a multi-format showcase of American Football.
Their continued appointments reflect AFA's commitment to building long-term coaching structures within the tackle program and ensuring Australian athletes are prepared to compete at the highest level on the international stage.
