1.2 References to time are to Australian Eastern Standard Time.
2. Acceptance of these Terms
2.1 Submission of an Entry constitutes acceptance of these Terms by the Entrant.
2.2 These Terms constitute the entire terms of the Promotion and supersede any prior representation, whether written or oral.
2.3 The Promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with the National Football League, the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, the Melbourne Cricket Club, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the ticket issuer, or any social media platform on which the Promotion is promoted, including Meta Platforms, Inc., LinkedIn and TikTok. Each Entrant releases each of those parties from all liability in connection with the Promotion. Any question, comment or complaint concerning the Promotion must be directed to the Promoter and not to any of those parties.
2.4 The Promotion is separate from and unconnected to the AFA Volunteer of the Year 2026. Entry has no bearing on that award and that award has no bearing on the Promotion.
3. Entry period
3.1 Entries open at 06:00pm on Tuesday 1 September 2026 and close at 11.59pm on Sunday 6 September 2026 ("the Entry Period").
3.2 Entries received outside the Entry Period will not be considered, irrespective of the cause of delay. The Promoter's server records are conclusive as to the time of receipt.
4. Eligibility
4.1 To be eligible to enter and to win, a person must, at the time of Entry:
(a) be a resident of Australia; and
(b) be 18 years of age or older.
4.2 A person may enter only on their own behalf. An Entry submitted on behalf of another person is invalid.
4.3 The following persons are not eligible to enter or to win: directors, officers, employees and contractors of AFA and of state and territory associations affiliated with AFA, and the immediate families of those persons, meaning a spouse, de facto partner, parent, child or sibling.
4.4 AFA membership is not required to enter.
5. Entries
5.1 Entries must be submitted through the online form at https://preview.mailerlite.io/forms/1624586/197389117893379686/share during the Entry Period.
5.2 A valid Entry must contain:
(a) the Entrant's full name, date of birth, email address, contact telephone number, state or territory of residence and postcode;
(b) the Entrant's answer to the question on the entry form concerning their connection to American football, and their answer to the question concerning which code they are interested in; and
(c) the Response, being 25 words or less.
5.3 The questions described at clause 5.2(b) are required in order to submit an Entry. Every answer offered on the entry form is a valid answer, including an answer indicating no interest in being involved in the sport. The answers given carry no weight in judging and have no bearing on the outcome. Answering those questions is not consent to receive marketing communications, which is dealt with separately at clause 14.4.
5.4 The Entrant must confirm the email address given in the Entry by responding to a confirmation message sent by the Promoter. An Entry with an unconfirmed email address is invalid and will not be judged.
5.5 Entry is free. No purchase is necessary to enter or to win.
5.6 One Entry per person. Where more than one Entry is received from the same person, only the first Entry received will be judged and all later Entries are void.
5.7 The Response must be the Entrant's own original work. An Entry is invalid where the Response is copied from another person or source, was generated in whole or substantial part by artificial intelligence, or infringes the rights of any person.
5.8 The Promoter may reject any Entry that is incomplete, illegible, ineligible, exceeds the word limit, or that is in the Promoter's reasonable opinion offensive, defamatory, misleading or in breach of the rights of any person.
5.9 The Promoter may require an Entrant to provide proof of identity, age or residency to the Promoter's reasonable satisfaction. Where such proof is not provided within the time specified by the Promoter, the Entry is invalid and the Entrant is ineligible.
5.10 Entrants must provide accurate and complete information. An Entry containing information that is inaccurate or incomplete is invalid.
5.11 An Entry is invalid where it is submitted by a script, macro, bot or other automated means, by bulk or coordinated entry, through a disposable, temporary or forwarding email address, or by any other method that in the Promoter's reasonable opinion circumvents clause 5.6. The Promoter may remove such Entries before judging without notice.
5.12 Entries become the property of the Promoter and will not be returned to the Entrant.
6. Selection
6.1 Entries are judged on merit by the Promoter. No element of the selection is determined by chance.
6.2 Judging takes place between the close of the Entry Period and 8.00am on Monday 7 September 2026, at the Promoter's premises.
6.3 In judging Entries the Promoter will have regard to the following criteria, each carrying equal weight:
(a) originality of expression;
(b) how well the Response answers the Question; and
(c) the sincerity and personal character of the Response.
6.4 The Promoter will place Entries first, second and third. The first placed Entrant is the Winner. The second and third placed Entrants are Runners-up, in that order.
6.5 Where two or more Entries are of equal merit, the Promoter will determine the placing by a further assessment of those Entries against the criteria at clause 6.3. No tie will be resolved by chance, lot or draw.
6.6 Where fewer than three valid Entries are received, the Promoter will place as many Entries as are received, and clause 7 applies to the extent a Runner-up is available.
6.7 The Promoter may determine that no Entry meets the criteria, in which case no Prize is awarded.
6.8 The decision of the Promoter is final. The Promoter will not enter into correspondence in respect of that decision except as required by law or under clause 17.
6.9 The Promoter may determine an Entry to be invalid after the Winner has been notified or announced, where it is established that the Entry did not comply with these Terms. In that event the Prize is forfeited and passes to the next Runner-up, to whom clauses 7 and 11 apply in the same manner.
6.10 A written record of the judging, including the placings and the reasons for the first placing, will be retained by the Promoter for a period of not less than 12 months.
7. Runners-up
7.1 Where the Winner does not accept the Prize within the period at clause 11.2, is found to be ineligible, or declines the Prize, the Winner forfeits the Prize and the Promoter will notify the first Runner-up by email at 9.00am on Tuesday 8 September 2026.
7.2 The first Runner-up must accept by 9.00am on Wednesday 9 September 2026. Clause 11 applies to a Runner-up as it applies to the Winner.
7.3 Where the first Runner-up forfeits, is ineligible or declines, the Promoter may notify the second Runner-up on the same basis, with an acceptance period determined by the Promoter having regard to the time remaining before the Game.
7.4 Where no Entrant accepts the Prize before the Game, the Prize is not awarded, the tickets revert to the Promoter, and no Entrant has any claim in respect of them.
8. The Prize
8.1 The Prize is two (2) tickets to the Game, having a total value of up to AUD $500 including booking fees. There is one Prize in total.
8.2 The Prize is awarded to the Winner, or to a Runner-up under clause 7.
8.3 The category and location of the tickets comprising the Prize are determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion.
8.4 The recipient may be accompanied by a guest of their choosing. Where the guest is under 18 years of age, the guest must be accompanied by their own parent or legal guardian, who must be the recipient or attend in addition at their own cost.
8.5 The tickets are subject to the terms, conditions and conditions of entry of the ticket issuer, the National Football League and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Admission to the Game is at the discretion of the venue operator.
8.6 There is no substitution of the Prize. Where the Prize or any part of it is cancelled, postponed, withdrawn or otherwise becomes unavailable for any reason, that part of the Prize is forfeited. No alternative prize, replacement, cash payment or compensation of any kind will be awarded in its place.
8.7 The recipient's guest must comply with these Terms as if they were the recipient. The recipient is responsible for the conduct of their guest and for informing the guest of these Terms.
9. Exclusions
9.1 The Prize comprises match tickets only. It does not include, and the Promoter is under no obligation to provide or fund, air, rail, coach or other travel; accommodation; transfers, parking or public transport; food, beverages, hospitality or lounge access; merchandise or memorabilia; travel insurance; leave from employment or compensation in respect of it; or any other cost or expense associated with attendance at the Game.
9.2 All costs of attending the Game are borne by the recipient. The Game commences on a Friday morning. Entrants should satisfy themselves before entering that they are able to attend at short notice and at their own cost.
9.3 The Prize is not transferable, not exchangeable, and not redeemable for cash. The Prize must not be sold, offered for sale, auctioned or otherwise commercialised, and any such conduct results in forfeiture.
9.4 The Promoter recommends that the recipient obtain appropriate travel insurance at their own cost. The Promoter does not provide, arrange or fund insurance of any kind.
9.5 The recipient is responsible for any taxation consequences arising from receipt of the Prize and should seek independent advice where appropriate. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of the Prize.
9.6 In the event the Game is cancelled, postponed, relocated or conducted without spectators, the Promoter's sole obligation is to pass on to the recipient such remedy as is provided by the ticket issuer. No alternative prize, replacement or cash payment will be awarded. The Promoter is not liable for any other loss, including any travel or accommodation arranged in anticipation of the Game.
10. Attendance at the Game
10.1 Attendance at the Game is subject to the conditions of entry of the venue operator and the ticket issuer. The recipient and their guest must comply with those conditions and with all reasonable directions of venue staff.
10.2 The venue operator may refuse admission to, or remove from the venue, any person who fails to comply with the conditions of entry. Where admission is refused or a person is removed, no refund, replacement or compensation of any kind is payable by the Promoter.
10.3 The Promoter may withdraw the Prize, or require its return, where the recipient or their guest engages in conduct that is unlawful, or that in the Promoter's reasonable opinion brings or is likely to bring the Promoter, the Promotion or American football in Australia into disrepute.
10.4 The recipient and their guest attend the Game at their own risk and, to the maximum extent permitted by law, release the Promoter from all liability for any loss, damage or injury sustained in connection with that attendance.
11. Notification and acceptance
11.1 The Promoter will notify the Winner by email at 8.00am on Monday 7 September 2026, to the email address confirmed under clause 5.4. Notification will be given by email only.
11.2 The Winner must accept the Prize in writing, by reply email to the address from which notification is sent, within 24 hours of notification being sent, and therefore by 8.00am on Tuesday 8 September 2026. Acceptance given in any other form, including verbally by telephone, is not sufficient.
11.3 Notification is effective when sent, not when read. A failure to monitor the email address given in the Entry does not extend the period at clause 11.2. No extension will be granted.
11.4 Where acceptance is not received within the period at clause 11.2, or the Winner is found to be ineligible, the Prize passes to a Runner-up under clause 7.
11.5 The recipient must provide valid identification to the Promoter on request. Failure to do so results in forfeiture of the Prize at the Promoter's discretion.
11.6 It is a condition of receiving the Prize that the recipient may be required to sign a release in a form determined by the Promoter.
12. Announcement and issue
12.1 Tickets are issued electronically to the recipient on receipt of acceptance.
12.2 Any tickets not issued by 5.00pm on Thursday 10 September 2026 are forfeited, the tickets having no value following the Game.
13. Publicity and intellectual property
13.1 By submitting an Entry, the Entrant grants the Promoter a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to publish and reproduce the Response in whole or in part, together with the Entrant's given name, initial of surname and state or territory, in the Promoter's editorial, marketing and social media materials.
13.2 The recipient agrees to participate in reasonable publicity in connection with the Promotion, including interview and photography. Participation is not a condition of receipt of the Prize.
13.3 Each Entrant warrants that the Response is their own original work and that they hold all rights necessary to grant the licence at clause 13.1.
13.4 Each Entrant consents, for the purposes of Part IX of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), to the Promoter using, editing, adapting and publishing the Response without attribution, and warrants that any other author of material in the Response has given the same consent.
14. Privacy
14.1 The Promoter collects personal information for the purposes of administering the Promotion, judging Entries, verifying eligibility, contacting the Winner and any Runner-up, and issuing the Prize. Entries cannot be processed without the information required by clause 5.2.
14.2 The Promoter also collects the information described at clause 5.2(a) and 5.2(b) concerning postcode, connection to American football and code interest for the purposes of its functions as the national sporting organisation for American football in Australia, being to understand where in Australia interest in playing, coaching, officiating and volunteering exists, and to plan the development of the sport accordingly. Where the Entrant has given consent under clause 14.4, the Promoter also uses that information to send the Entrant information relevant to their stated interests.
14.3 Personal information is collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Promoter's privacy policy at https://www.americanfootball.org.au/privacy.
14.4 Consent to receive marketing communications is optional and is not a condition of entry. Consent is given by ticking a separate box on the entry form, which is not pre-ticked, and is confirmed by the Entrant responding to a confirmation message. An Entrant who does not give consent is judged on the same terms as one who does, and will receive only messages necessary to administer the Promotion. Consent may be withdrawn at any time.
14.5 The Promoter may disclose the recipient's details to the ticket issuer for the purposes of issuing the Prize.
14.6 Personal information of Entrants who do not consent to marketing communications is retained only for so long as is necessary to administer the Promotion and to meet any record keeping obligation, and is then deleted. The Promoter may retain de-identified aggregate information, including counts by postcode and by stated interest, which does not identify any Entrant and is not personal information.
14.7 Requests for access to or correction of personal information may be directed to info@americanfootball.org.au
15. Liability
15.1 The Promoter is not liable for Entries that are lost, delayed, corrupted, incomplete or not received as a result of technical failure, network fault or any other cause beyond the Promoter's reasonable control.
15.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Promoter, its officers, employees and contractors exclude all liability for any loss, damage, injury, cost or expense arising out of or in connection with the Promotion, the Prize or attendance at the Game, whether direct or indirect.
15.3 The Promoter is not liable for any act or omission of the ticket issuer, the venue operator, the National Football League or any other third party involved in the supply of the Prize or the conduct of the Game.
15.4 Without limiting clause 15.2, the Promoter is not liable for any misadventure, accident, injury, loss or claim occurring during the judging of Entries, in the acceptance or use of the Prize, or arising from the publication of any material in connection with the Promotion, including any statement made by an Entrant or any other person.
15.5 The National Football League, its member clubs, its related bodies corporate and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents and representatives have no liability or responsibility for any claim arising in connection with the Promotion or the Prize.
15.6 Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy conferred by the Australian Consumer Law or any other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.
16. Amendment and suspension
16.1 The Promoter may amend these Terms. Where it does so, it will take all reasonable steps to notify Entrants and will publish the amended Terms on this page within a reasonable period before the amendment takes effect.
16.2 Where the Promotion cannot be conducted as contemplated by reason of any cause beyond the Promoter's reasonable control, including but not limited to technical failure, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, power failure, natural disaster, civil unrest, industrial action, war, act of terrorism or pandemic, the Promoter may amend, suspend or cancel the Promotion, subject to applicable law.
17. Complaints
17.1 A complaint concerning the conduct of the Promotion or the Prize must be made in writing to info@americanfootball.org.au within 14 days from the close of the entry period.
17.2 The Promoter will acknowledge receipt within 5 business days and provide a substantive response within 14 days.
17.3 Where a complaint is not resolved, the complainant may refer the matter to the fair trading or consumer affairs authority in their state or territory.
18. Regulatory status
18.1 The Promotion is a game of skill. The Winner and each Runner-up are determined by the Promoter on merit, against the criteria at clause 6.3. No element of the selection is determined by chance, and no tie is resolved by chance.
18.2 Accordingly, no trade promotion permit, licence or authority is required in any Australian state or territory.
19. General
19.1 The Promoter may disqualify any Entrant who, in the Promoter's reasonable opinion, breaches these Terms, interferes with the entry process, or engages in fraudulent or unfair conduct.
19.2 The Promoter is not bound by any typographical, printing or other error appearing in any advertising or promotional material relating to the Promotion, and may correct any such error at any time.
19.3 If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision is severed and the remaining provisions continue in full force.
19.4 These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State.
