Pier Pritchard named to inaugural IFAF Women's Leadership Programme

Former Australian representative Pier Pritchard has been named in the inaugural cohort of the IFAF Women's Leadership Programme, one of just 16 selected worldwide.

The programme is a new initiative from the International Federation of American Football, designed to grow women's representation in leadership across the sport globally.

Pritchard represented Australia in flag football at both the 2023 IFAF Women's Asia-Oceania Championship and the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championship in Finland, and earlier played tackle for Australia in 2017.

Pritchard has since stepped into the junior pathways system as a coach, guiding the New South Wales Under 17 girls' side to a 2026 Flag Football national championship title through American Football New South Wales.

When speaking on the news, Pritchard said

"It's an exciting opportunity I couldn't walk past to connect with like-minded leaders around the world, drive meaningful change, and lead with integrity and passion alongside those on my governing body."

Wade Kelly, AFA CEO and IFAF Oceania Director, said the selection was a proud moment for the sport in Australia.

"From representing Australia on the international stage to developing the next generation through coaching, Pier continues to make a meaningful impact. We are excited to see her contribute to shaping the global future of American football and inspiring more women to step into leadership roles."

On the wider picture, Kelly added:

"As IFAF Oceania Director this is another fantastic step in growing the game in our region, with many to hopefully follow. I wish Pier, Shernice Henry (NZ) and all the inspirational women selected for this exciting opportunity well."

American Football Australia (AFA) is the national governing body for American Football in Australia, recognised by the Australian Sports Commission and a full member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF). AFA is responsible for national competitions and the development of Australian national teams across both tackle and flag football.
